Glenn Beck's Tower Of Babel
I almost hate to even write this article because it seems intellectually inferior to respond to such a ridiculous discussion as the one that was had on the Glenn Beck show about the Tower of Babel. My knee jerk reaction to this ludicrous hour of programming was to laugh it off. Certainly, Glenn can't believe that he has a picture of the Tower of Babel, right? I figured this was just further evidence of how close this guy is to grabbing a coloring book and checking into the local nut clinic. However, as I began to research this for the show, I found a couple of interesting facts. So before you read on, if you are one of Beck's many fans, I want you to ask yourself a question here. Did you take him seriously on this one? If he is not a mad man, is it possible that he was knowingly and willingly lying to you to create a fraudulent story about the building of a one world Government?
For the sake of this article, I will assume (and trust me, this is tough to do) that Beck means to be taken seriously here. Here is the case he lays out.
1. We are being pushed into a one world government.
The whole world is being pushed into a global model of government. And George Soros, we told you, we've shown you the strings. The strings that he's pulling are amazing. Is it a coincidence that the E.U. and really — I mean, that's where we're going and he's a big fan — really?
Global government — that's everybody's answer, it seems today. Our Founders would say smaller government. Everyone who has power now is saying bigger. Tonight, I want to spend some time on global government — one big government, one language.
2. The model for this government is that of Nimrod at the Tower of Babel.
People, like George Soros, talk about global government like it's a brand new idea. You know, Popper is the guy who's — oh, he's a guy who's come up with this great idea. Really? No, it's actually one of the oldest ideas known to man.
Have you ever heard of the Tower of Babel? Oh, this is fascinating. Buckle up, gang. Here we go.
3. The E.U. Parliament Building is modeled after the Tower of Babel.
BECK: Back with Rabbi Daniel Lapin. Now, we have been talking about the Tower of Babel, the hunter — Nimrod was a great king but he was actually a hunter. And the difference between bricks and stones — these are individuals. This is — everybody is exactly the same. The mortar that held the bricks together was materialism, and they were building a tower, the Tower of Babel. All right. I'm going to start where I began tonight. Bring up the E.U. Parliament building. Love this. Beautiful building, isn't it? Look at that. Now, let me go back to the Tower of Babel. Put the tower of Babel back up. Here is the Tower of Babel. Here, you see it's unfinished — it's unfinished, a little doorway over here. Pretty amazing. Put them side-by-side, please. Coincidence?
LAPIN: Well, there is no word in Hebrew for "coincidence," Glenn. I have to reject the coincidence theory. (LAUGHTER)
BECK: This is amazing. If you look at the unfinished doorway here and here and the doorway here, the little doorways up here, the doorway here, you have these — what would you call these?
LAPIN: Vertical buttresses.
BECK: Buttresses —
LAPIN: Yes, they are.
BECK: Which are all right here. It's unfinished. Same angle, area — I mean, it's unbelievable.
LAPIN: And how it steps down, all the unfinished work in both pictures —
BECK: Right.
LAPIN: In the same direction, both from right to left. Strange.
BECK: So now, you're not saying, Rabbi — you're not saying that they intentionally are building the Tower of Babel?
LAPIN: I think they are. I really do.
Now, let me point out here that I firmly believe Glenn to be a raving lunatic. However, there are two other options. It is possible that he does really shotty research. However, Glenn constantly points out how much time his staff spends on research so I doubt that to be the case. The other option is that he is willing to flat out lie to his audience to prove his case.
First, here is the picture Glenn used of the Tower of Babel.
As we can see here, the tower in the picture has seven layers. However, in 440 B.C., Greek Historian Herodotus visited the tower and wrote the following. "It has a solid central tower, one furlong square, with a second erected on top of it and then a third, and so on up to eight. All eight towers can be climbed by a spiral way running around the outside, and about halfway up there are seats for those who make the journey to rest on."
But we could assume this was a picture of the tower still under construction. This is a likely assumption, because the Tower was rebuilt by King Nebuchadnezzar who wrote the following about his reconstruction project. "A former king built the Temple of the Seven Lights of the Earth, but he did not complete its head. Since a remote time, people had abandoned it, without order expressing their words. Since that time earthquakes and lightning had dispersed its sun-dried clay; the bricks of the casing had split, and the earth of the interior had been scattered in heaps. Marduk, the great lord, excited my mind to repair this building. I did not change the site, nor did I take away the foundation stone as it had been in former times. So I founded it, I made it; as it had been in ancient days, I so exalted the summit".
Notice, he did not change the foundation. So, what does the foundation look like? Here is a google earth image of the archeological dig at the foundation of the Etemenanki, which is believed to the the Tower of Babel.
Here is a computer generated image based on the archeological findings that depicts what the structure would have looked like.
So why didn't Beck use these images on the show? Simply put, Glenn Beck bends the facts to fit his story, rather than following the facts wherever they may lead. Glenn needed that image to look like the E.U. building, so he found one that did. My initial reaction to this episode of his show was to laugh it off as the ramblings of a mad man, which I don't doubt he is. But as always, a little research goes a long way into exposing this guy.
So, back to the Beck fan. Did you believe him when you saw this episode? Did you think "Wow! I have to tell my friends!"? If you still wish to defend him, feel free to do so in the comments. But also ask yourself a question. If he is lying to you about obscure things that he probably assumes will be laughed off by anyone who would be inclined to try to disprove him, is he also lying to you about more obvious things?
