Obama Admin Falls Victim To Itself
When Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, peope like myself (and by that I mean rational people) were unprepared for the fallout that would hit the Bush Administration. You see, some people are aware of the fact that some things are out of the control of humans, no matter how much power an individual possesses. Global warming paranoia aside, storms are acts of nature, not man made events. Yet liberals seized on the opportunity to blame the Bush Administration for the storm itself and the ensuing disaster in the New Orleans area.
While I am not one to typically defend Obama, I have to throw my two cents in here as more and more people begin to make the claim that the Gulf oil leak is becoming Obama's Katrina. While I will agree that it is, the question is should it be, and the answer is (ironically) yes and (literally) no. The irony being that had they (Obama and other liberals) not started the process of blaming a President for things far beyond their control, there would be no grounds to blame Obama here. Do we seriously expect our President to monitor in real time every oil well in the Gulf and stand by with a scuba suit and a pipe wrench in case something goes wrong? Of course not. But neither should we expect a President to stand by with a bus and an evacuation route every time a hurricane forms in the gulf.
So now, the Obama Administration is finding itself attempting to dodge the natural progression of the idea that they originally exploited. If a natural disaster is the fault of a President, then certainly a man-made one would be as well, right?
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar betrayed simmering frustration inside the Barack Obama administration when he branded the disaster "a BP mess, a horrible mess, a massive environmental mess," during a trip to Louisiana.
Salazar had Sunday threatened to push BP "out of the way" if it was not up to the job of stopping the leak, but Obama's pointman on the disaster admitted the government had few options.
However Coast Guard chief Thad Allen said rebuffing BP may not work, since the US government lacked the expertise and equipment needed to stop the leak 5,000 feet (1,500 meters) under water.
"To push BP out of the way would raise a question -- to replace them with what?" Allen said, revealing that he had consulted another major oil firm on the situation, and been satisfied BP was doing everything that could be done.
And herein lies the dilemma. Notice how nothing is ever the fault of this President? Yes, many will dismiss this excuse like the rest of them. Yet this one is legit. It is BP's fault, and hence mess. That having been said, notice the incompetence of this media blitz? If it is BP's fault, why threaten to push them out of the way. The logical progression of this effort would be to take the blame as well as the mess. Then, as if realizing this mid-step, they admit that they have few (no) options.
It is a natural human reaction to want to take this problem out of the hands that created it. However, this is BP's oil. Every drop that leaks out is lost revenue for them. Does one really think that they are not desperate to find a solution? If I had all of my money in a vault in my house, and somehow a hole was blown in the side and my money was flying out and blowing down the road, do you think I would wait until my day off next week to fix it? Of course not. Furthermore, this repair is a complicated matter. As bad as the "experts" look right now, we don't want this problem in the hands of amateurs.
As this mess drags on, more and more people will point the finger of blame at the Obama Administration. I will point the finger and laugh. How does it feel, Mr. President? Furthermore, how does one respond when the animal he created attacks him? Does one admit they were playing to the intellectual weakness of their supporters when they did this to the last guy? If so, he offends his base. So instead, they must try to spin their way out of it. If the above quote is any example of how they intend to do this, good luck with that. Yes, this will likely be Obama's Katrina. But I will have no part of making it so. Historically, the blame will fall where it should. Politically, this is just more oil laden water the Obama Administration is taking on.
