Yes, I went on a bit of a rant against the unions on this past weekends show. If you missed it, you should be sure to check it out on the home page. It ended with a great discussion between myself and the Content Czar about the whole union issue, she being in favor of unions and I being opposed. However, I am not a completely unreasonable guy, and I have noticed today some new things coming about in specifically the Wisconsin labor dispute and in general labor relation issues. I'm not sure why all of this is coming from Wisconsin or it's neighboring state Minnesota, but I am pretty sure these maneuvers were an attempt to win me over to the union's side in the fight.
With President Obama declaring section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act to be un-constitutional, and having his justice department announce that they will no longer defend the law, my first thought was "who does this guy think he is". If you said "President of the United States", you would be wrong. A President in our Representative Republic knows that it is the job of the courts, not the President, to determine the constitutionality of laws. And few should know that better than this one. After all, he is at the same time declaring one law un-constitutional and refusing to defend it and pushing implementation of his own Health Care Reform law that a court has declared un-constitutional. My concern is not with the defense of marriage act here, because gay marriage is a total non-issue to me. My original concern was with the precedent that is being set here. My latest concern, however, is a bit different.
Rush Limbaugh has always said that when liberals are out of power, they are funny. When they are in power, they are dangerous. If you ever doubted that logic, all you have to do is take a look at the last 2 years and compare them to this year. I know, I should be angry about the fact that Democrats from my state and Wisconsin have decided that the best way for them to represent us is by taking a vacation in Illinois, right? Let's face it, folks. It's too funny to get mad about. I haven't seen a temper tantrum this good since Howard Dean lost Iowa. Leave it to these clowns to make him look marginally sane. Hey liberals, didn't you just spend the last two years calling the Republicans the "Party of No" because they voted against you? Did you seriously do all of that to become the party of no show? I'm just saying. Hey Democrats, don't look now but you're not 3 anymore. You can't go hide in the corner and pretend that the world isn't there anymore. You can't hold your breath until mommy gives you that... on second thought, maybe you should try that one!
When President Obama was inaugurated, he took the same route to Washington that Lincoln did, he used the Lincoln Bible, and even openly talked about studying Lincoln's Inaugural Address while preparing his. The Inaugural lunch featured foods that President Lincoln enjoyed. Going back a little further, President Obama even went to Springfield Illinois to announce his candidacy in the tradition of Abraham Lincoln. While I alone saw the irony in following the path to Washington of a President one would never wish to follow on the path out, many people took comfort in the efforts gone to by the new President. The Presidential Inauguration Committee had the following to say about it.
I have some friends and family who supported President Trump from early on in the process. From time to time they will ask me when I will admit that I was wrong about him. "If Trump does x... If Trump gets y... If Trump supports a policy that results in z... will you admit that you were wrong?" My answer is always "no", because I wasn't wrong. To be clear, I could be wrong in practical application, but that isn't what an election is about. Elections are about theory and speculation and, generally speaking about judging records. Trump had no record to speak of, and his history of stances on issues was all over the map. I opposed his candidacy for several major reasons, all of which are proven valid in this single issue we now refer to as the "travel ban". Here were my reasons.
If you're not familiar with Justice with Judge Jeanine, it is a show on the FOX News Network starring Jeanine Pirro. She is known for her over-the-top rants where she serves up gobs of fresh red meat for her largely hard right wing audience. While it's not unusual for her to be a little fast and loose with the facts, she has been known to occasionally return from the break with a correction from her producers. Last night, however, there was no such correction to an outright lie she told on the show, and the matter being discussed should have (at the very least) contained a disclaimer from the host. I would cut her some slack, but as a former prosecutor and judge, she should be well aware of what proper protocol should have been here.
It's not cute anymore, Republicans. The President of the United States is completely detached from reality, and you can't fix that. You can't cover it up, you can't explain it away, and let me make this as clear as I possibly can for you. You cannot possibly undo the damage you are doing to the party brand by trying to pretend this man is anything other than completely unhinged. I'm watching Sean Hannity borrow guests from the Alex Jones show in an attempt to bolster Trump's conspiratorial claims. I'm seeing relatively mainstream conservatives make themselves look like the crazed fringes of the paranoid right wing. Don't believe me? Look at this.
