In an effort to win me over, no doubt

Yes, I went on a bit of a rant against the unions on this past weekends show. If you missed it, you should be sure to check it out on the home page. It ended with a great discussion between myself and the Content Czar about the whole union issue, she being in favor of unions and I being opposed. However, I am not a completely unreasonable guy, and I have noticed today some new things coming about in specifically the Wisconsin labor dispute and in general labor relation issues. I'm not sure why all of this is coming from Wisconsin or it's neighboring state Minnesota, but I am pretty sure these maneuvers were an attempt to win me over to the union's side in the fight.

First, we have the situation in Madison where teachers got fake sick notes from doctors on street corners to allow them to skip school and attend a protest. This seemed to be flat out wrong, and is obviously dishonest, but the bad deed will not go unpunished. Yes, someone had the courage to stand up and demand that somebody pay for the little game of hookie played by the teachers, and the hammer is about to drop... on the kids.

Details of the plan to make up those four missed days were released Monday, nearly four weeks after teachers first called in "sick." It includes adding varying numbers of minutes to the school day, depending on grade level. No full days will be added to the end of the year.

Yes, you read that correctly. The kids will have to stay late to make up for the days when their teachers had something better to do than showing up for work. It's only fair? I guess? And just in case that wasn't enough to ruin little Junior's day, it seems that the NFL is hell bent on make sure he doesn't have any football to watch this coming fall, long after the hours of paying for the sins of his teacher have been spent. But judging from the words of Adrian Peterson, it might be a good thing that the season is in jeopardy.

"It's modern-day slavery, you know?" Peterson said. "People kind of laugh at that, but there are people working at regular jobs who get treated the same way, too. With all the money ... the owners are trying to get a different percentage, and bring in more money."

Wow. Slavery? That's kind of a bad thing, isn't it? I don't know personally, because I've never been a slave. Perhaps I should read up on this terrible enslavement of NFL players so that I can learn what slavery is like.

Adrian's contract is worth 40.5 million over six years, with $17 million guaranteed. He works about 5 days a week and 7 months out of the year, assuming his team makes the playoffs. Plus, he gets a week off during the season. So, unless my math is way off, we're talking roughly a million bucks a month while he is at work, 5 months of vacation, then back to the grind for another 6 or 7 months with only a week off. Slavery? Where do I sign up.

I also played an ad on this weekends show from MoveOn which asked why Republicans want to send women to the back alley for abortions because of budget cuts. Interestingly enough, they didn't ask why union teachers and football players hate children so much that they want to draw out their school days and take their football away from them. Of course, I'm being a bit sarcastic there. I don't think they hate children. But assuming the teachers showed up for work but all of the kids had called in sick, would they want credit for that day on their paycheck? You're darn right they would. So why don't the kids get credit for those days, and the teachers can stay late by themselves (wait for it) and think about what they did!
