You've got to be kidding me, right? Enough said. Here are the facts that obviously elude our President.
As Obama rushes to appease the world and weaken national security, it is only appropriate that he create a new gaffe in so doing. A couple of weeks ago, Vice President Joe Biden allegedly released the location of the secret underground bunker made for the security of the #2 elected leader in the country. Not to be outdone, President Obama has now released a treasure hunt map for any terrorist or other type of crook to use to fill their weapons wish list.
In an attempt to get Iran to disclose their nuclear program, President Obama thought it would be a good idea for us to give all of our information to the IEAE. He is doing this to open the United States to stricter inspections. No, I'm not making this up. At this point, any logical thinking adult reading this probably would draw the conclusion that this is the gaffe. The naivety of this decision is almost as disheartening as the actual gaffe. One would think that after the knife in the back he got from Castro after agreeing to talk, the President would think twice before taking the first step when dealing with rogue dictators. Wait, that's right. Obama doesn't realize how ridiculous he looked there yet. But I digress.
Remember this scene from election day?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88m63UyldWY
The video shows a scene where members of the Black Panther Party stand outside a poling location in Philadelphia Pa, menacing and intimidating voters. The men are King Samir Shabazz, Malik Zulu Shabazz, and Jerry Jackson (who saw that one coming?). Charges were filed against the three men for violations of the voter rights act by using coercion, threats and intimidation. The complaint stated that the men hurled racial slurs at both black and white voters, and that one of the men brandished a nightstick or baton and pointed it at voters and tapped it menacingly.
President Barack Obama came into Washington D.C. with promises of hope and change. He promised a new era of Government, and he has delivered. His experience was called into question by members of his own party when Hillary Clinton suggested that the Presidency was one job that didn't allow for on-the-job training. Her point has been amplified by the actions of this young Administration.
After taking over the reigns of the Country from President Bush, Obama asked for the Congress to quickly pass a $780 billion stimulus package to get the economy rolling. Many economists opposed the stimulus, saying that it would bring inflation, make us a debtor nation, and ultimately bankrupt our Country. Despite these warnings, Obama pushed forward, asking for the bill. He got it. And now, when asked at what point we would experience this bankruptcy that was warned about, President Obama answered "Well, we are out of money now". He told people attending a town hall meeting in New Mexico that these very spending policies he asked for are "unsustainable" and said that "we are mortgaging our children's future with more debt", confirming that he now agrees with those of us how opposed the stimulus. While we welcome him over to our side of the issue, it would be negligent not to point out the fact that he arrives 3/4 of a trillion dollars too late.
One of Obama's first moves as President was to order a halt to the military tribunals being used to prosecute terrorists, including some of the masterminds behind September 11th. Obama declared the tribunals to be the "wrong forum" for prosecuting terrorists, and supported instead prosecuting these terrorists in civilian courts here in the United States to "balance civil liberties concerns". He was opposed in this move by many in the Defense community who said that civilian prosecutions would be nearly impossible, and that the move would show weakness to terrorist groups who wish harm to the United States. Obama himself was forced to admit that he was wrong, and has now brought back the use of the military tribunal system that he declared to be the "wrong forum".
These are two issues where the President has now seemed to publicly agree with those who tried to talk him out of disastrous policies. And while these two points would imply the mark of a rookie who lacks the experience to comprehend the issues facing the Country, and one might take heart in the fact that he has realized that he failed and changed his rhetoric, there are many issues where President Obama remains utterly clueless.
On National Defense, Obama was attacked during the Campaign for saying he would not respect Pakistan's borders and would go after the Taliban or Al Qaeda without consulting with the Pakistani Government. Such consultation would have informed our ally, and allowed for them to have advanced plans on how to deal with the aftermath of such an attack. Obama delivered, bombing the Taliban across the border without coordinating efforts with Pakistan. His failure to heed warnings has resulted in the Taliban claiming power inside Pakistan a mere 60 miles from the Capital Islamabad, and has placed their nuclear weapons in danger of falling into terrorist hands.
In April, North Korea tested a long range missile. President Obama condemned the tests and promised tough action. I myself warned of the danger of promising tough action and delivering none. He responded with none, and now North Korea is once again testing nukes.
President Obama took office claiming he would save and create jobs. His policies have resulted in the bankruptcy of General Motors and Chrysler, the closing of many of their dealerships, and announcement of plans to build cars oversees or sell out completely to foreign operations. During the Campaign, Obama repeatedly spoke of the "failed policies of the last eight years", then as President took the stock market to 11 year lows.In March, President Obama's economy set a new record low with the average work week in the U.S. dropping to an unprecedented 33.2 hours. Unemployment rates have skyrocketed under Obama to 8.5%, their highest level since 1983. He has also nearly tripled the National Debt.
Now, President Obama is pushing his plan to shut down the GITMO detention center. Many experts have warned against this, stating obvious security concerns and less obvious issues of sensitive security information being released in civilian court documents. Now, even Obama's own party has expressed opposition to his plan. Even if one lacked the common sense to see the problems in bringing terrorists to the United States, one can certainly follow the chain of immense failures in the short time that this Administration has been at the helm. Rampant job loss, wealth depletion, chaos in Pakistan and North Korea, and unsustainable deficit spending are just a few of the disastrous results of the leadership of President Obama. Let's not add the knowing and complicit importation of known terrorists to the list of astronomical blunders our Country must suffer at the hands of this reckless and inexperienced man.
On the 20th of June 2006, I attacked President Bush for his $593 billion prescription drug plan. In that article, I begged for a leader, namely Newt Gingrich, to return us to our Conservative roots. I quote that article now.
Mr. Gingrich, we're begging for you, buddy. We need a new contract. We need sweeping reform. We need not a freshman class, but a SENIOR CLASS. We need proven leadership. We need a man with a vision and the know-how to execute it. Newt, we need you to bring us our country back like you did in 94. We need a man who is both strong on defense and looks out for our pocketbooks. And I don't mean a little temporary tax break cookie. I mean cleaning out excess, limiting the welfare state, and bringing accountability back to Washington.
These words are much truer now than when I originally wrote them. It encourages me to see Mr. Gingrich all over the Sunday Show Circuit in recent weeks. There are other true Conservatives as well who will be desperately needed after four years of the disastrous policies of this incompetent administration.
As I travel the blogosphere, I see more and more Conservatives wishing to leave the Republican Party. However, it is important now more than ever before for us to stand together and take our party back. We can do so, but only behind a truly Conservative leader. In my opinion, Newt is that leader. There are others out there. The important thing is to understand what our party is. It is the structure that is already in place to be the vehicle for a Conservative resurgence. While it may be fun to flirt with the notion of a third party, how long would it take to get such a vehicle in place. Four years? Eight years? I submit that we don't have that long. Let us stand united behind the Conservatives in our party. We must continue to push our agenda. And let's be honest here. What better backdrop to contrast the Conservative agenda against than the failed policies of this Administration? Ladies and Gentlemen, we have found our Jimmy Carter. The natural order of things demands that we find our Ronald Reagan... or else!
Much is being made by both the left and the right about a comment made by Judge Sotomayor that would imply racism. The right says it is, the left says it isn't when taken in context, and Conservative commentators miss the point again. The quote in question is as follows.
"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."
While the statement is racist, it is more importantly ignorant. And yes, I am aware that the Judge was speaking of discrimination cases in particular. I am also aware that a member of a class who has experienced legitimate discrimination would likely have more experiences to draw on related to the subject. But I am, more importantly aware of the fact that all of this is irrelevant to a judge. Ironically, so is Judge Sotomayor. In the link to the quote above, another of the Judges quotes is exposed. It follows.
This month, for example, a video surfaced of Judge Sotomayor asserting in 2005 that a “court of appeals is where policy is made.” She then immediately adds: “And I know — I know this is on tape, and I should never say that because we don’t make law. I know. O.K. I know. I’m not promoting it. I’m not advocating it. I’m — you know.”
You see, a judge does not make law. They simply apply existing law to the trial and ensure that it is being followed. They interpret the law, rather than making it. Let me take a moment to explain this. A judge does not determine guilt or innocence, a jury does. What the judge does is determine how the law applies and how it will be enforced. A prosecutor determines when a law has been broken, and brings a case to the judge. The judge then interprets the law by determining first of all if the law that the prosecutor references applies to the case. The judge uses existing laws to determine if evidence collected is admissible, if jurors meet legal requirements, and if the accused has proper representation. Throughout the trial, the judge must observe the entire trial and guarantee that it fits within the scope of the law. If a lawyer uses a method of questioning that is out of line with the law, the judge must stop it based on law, not the Judges personal preference. A judge references law to determine if witnesses will be allowed, and under what conditions.
I have some friends and family who supported President Trump from early on in the process. From time to time they will ask me when I will admit that I was wrong about him. "If Trump does x... If Trump gets y... If Trump supports a policy that results in z... will you admit that you were wrong?" My answer is always "no", because I wasn't wrong. To be clear, I could be wrong in practical application, but that isn't what an election is about. Elections are about theory and speculation and, generally speaking about judging records. Trump had no record to speak of, and his history of stances on issues was all over the map. I opposed his candidacy for several major reasons, all of which are proven valid in this single issue we now refer to as the "travel ban". Here were my reasons.
Continue readingIf you're not familiar with Justice with Judge Jeanine, it is a show on the FOX News Network starring Jeanine Pirro. She is known for her over-the-top rants where she serves up gobs of fresh red meat for her largely hard right wing audience. While it's not unusual for her to be a little fast and loose with the facts, she has been known to occasionally return from the break with a correction from her producers. Last night, however, there was no such correction to an outright lie she told on the show, and the matter being discussed should have (at the very least) contained a disclaimer from the host. I would cut her some slack, but as a former prosecutor and judge, she should be well aware of what proper protocol should have been here.
Continue readingIt's not cute anymore, Republicans. The President of the United States is completely detached from reality, and you can't fix that. You can't cover it up, you can't explain it away, and let me make this as clear as I possibly can for you. You cannot possibly undo the damage you are doing to the party brand by trying to pretend this man is anything other than completely unhinged. I'm watching Sean Hannity borrow guests from the Alex Jones show in an attempt to bolster Trump's conspiratorial claims. I'm seeing relatively mainstream conservatives make themselves look like the crazed fringes of the paranoid right wing. Don't believe me? Look at this.
