Here is your weekend in review.

Cheney

Former Vice President Dick Cheney directed the quote above at former Secretary of State Colin Powell, referencing Powell's vocal support for Barack Obama.  Cheney made the comments on Face The Nation, and also added that "if I had to choose in terms of being a Republican, I'd go with Rush Limbaugh." Mr. Powell, I believe it is unanimous. When are these liberal RINO's going to catch on to the fact that the left will not like them once they get there. The only value Powell serves to the Dems is as a Republican attacking his own. That having been said, the time has come for Powell to drop the name and officially become what he has been for some time anyway. Mr Powell, I believe Specter is saving you a seat on the bus. Farewell.

 Obama

It seems that now the New York Times finally wants to scour Obama's past for clues to how he may govern in the future. Those who wanted to do that before he was elected were hate mongers though, right? That having been said, there are some interesting quotes in this article. "Mr. Obama’s voting record suggests a more ideological approach to the courts than he has portrayed, as well as a keen awareness that votes for Bush nominees considered too conservative by liberal groups could become fodder for an attack ad against him in a Democratic presidential primary, where the party’s liberal base would hold particular sway." So I guess now it is fair to say that both sides recognize Obama as a hypocrite who speaks from both sides of his mouth and always considers the political cost before he does anything? Welcome to the party, NYT. Maybe sometime this century you will figure out why your revenues are dropping faster than Arlen Specters seniority.

 Obama

The White House Corespondents dinner was Saturday night, and President Obama had plenty of jokes about his first hundred days. One that stood out to me follows. "Sasha and Malia aren't here tonight because they're grounded," he said. "You can't just take Air Force One on a joyride to Manhattan -- I don't care whose kids you are." I remembered back to the campaign when America learned that Michelle Obama had recently, "for the first time in [her] adult life" felt proud to be an American. Barack promptly declared family to be "off limits". I guess as with most things for Obama, this is a one way street. Obama also encouraged more of the Messiah nonsense with the following quote, "I believe that my next 100 days will be so successful, I will be able to complete them in 72 days -- and on the 73rd day I will rest." Apparently, the only time Obama is offended by comparisons to Christianity is when they are offensive to real Christians, or when they hanging on the walls at Georgetown University.

 Petraeus

General Petraeus said today that Al Qaeda is no longer operating in Afghanistan, and has instead moved it's operations across the border to Pakistan. He elaborated that groups associated with Al Qaeda still have reach into Afghanistan. This marks the second time that a surge in U.S. troops has been a success against the terrorist organization. I'm personally happy that, despite the fact that Obama was opposed to the first American success (even after it happened) that he was willing to get on board with this one. Petraeus also praised Pakistan for their efforts against the terrorist organizations. We hope for continued success in the volatile situation as we try to keep Al Qaeda and the Taliban away from Pakistans nuclear arsenal.

 afghan

President Obama is getting an education on where his appeasement of the world leads. An air strike in Afghanistan last week that resulted in civilian deaths has certainly stolen some of his Administrations thunder as they try to make war criminals of Bush and Cheney. Now, Afghan officials are accusing the military of using white phosphorus in the attack that killed 100 civilians. The military is denying using the chemical which is not banned by chemical weapons treaties. During the campaign, Obama accused our troops of air raiding villages and killing civilians. Now, the same charge is being leveled against him by Afghan officials. I am not a hypocrite, so I will not join in on the bashing. I believe our troops are outstanding people who are doing the best they can to limit civilian casualties. However, Obama's own statements deriding our military may now come back to haunt him by amplifying these accusations. You can see his comments in the video at the top of the page.

  • Watered Down Travel Ban

    Watered Down Travel Ban

I have some friends and family who supported President Trump from early on in the process. From time to time they will ask me when I will admit that I was wrong about him. "If Trump does x... If Trump gets y... If Trump supports a policy that results in z... will you admit that you were wrong?" My answer is always "no", because I wasn't wrong. To be clear, I could be wrong in practical application, but that isn't what an election is about. Elections are about theory and speculation and, generally speaking about judging records. Trump had no record to speak of, and his history of stances on issues was all over the map. I opposed his candidacy for several major reasons, all of which are proven valid in this single issue we now refer to as the "travel ban". Here were my reasons.

  • Fraudulent Rant by Judge Jeanine

    Fraudulent Rant by Judge Jeanine

If you're not familiar with Justice with Judge Jeanine, it is a show on the FOX News Network starring Jeanine Pirro. She is known for her over-the-top rants where she serves up gobs of fresh red meat for her largely hard right wing audience. While it's not unusual for her to be a little fast and loose with the facts, she has been known to occasionally return from the break with a correction from her producers. Last night, however, there was no such correction to an outright lie she told on the show, and the matter being discussed should have (at the very least) contained a disclaimer from the host. I would cut her some slack, but as a former prosecutor and judge, she should be well aware of what proper protocol should have been here.

  • Wake The Hell Up, GOP!

    Wake The Hell Up, GOP!

It's not cute anymore, Republicans. The President of the United States is completely detached from reality, and you can't fix that. You can't cover it up, you can't explain it away, and let me make this as clear as I possibly can for you. You cannot possibly undo the damage you are doing to the party brand by trying to pretend this man is anything other than completely unhinged. I'm watching Sean Hannity borrow guests from the Alex Jones show in an attempt to bolster Trump's conspiratorial claims. I'm seeing relatively mainstream conservatives make themselves look like the crazed fringes of the paranoid right wing. Don't believe me? Look at this.
