Obama Falls For It

I have an idea for a reality show. Here is the general idea. Parents are given a two week vacation, the children stay at home with a tv crew. The camera crew will exercise moderate supervision of the kids. Nothing big, ya know? Just keep them from killing themselves. But they allow them to do all the stupid things kids want to do when the parents are gone. They go to school in Halloween costumes, subsist entirely on Oreo cookies and Coke, and bathe once a week. They stay up until two am then fall asleep at school. They plaster their rooms with graffiti. They do all of the things parents typically stand in the way of. Then, at the end of the vacation, we watch the parents get totally humiliated while they watch the videos of their kids moronic behavior. Sound good? I'd be hooked. Now where did I get this idea? Watching our President.

Case in point. President Obama goes to the Summit of the Americas. Now, the "parents" are gone, right? Were they there when Raul Castro agreed to discuss a wide array of topics with Obama, their guidance would have come in handy. "Dad" could have quickly pulled Obama aside and said "Son, before you go off touting this as some type of success, remember these are tyrannical dictators. By 'discuss' they mean they will tell you why it is their prerogative to continue these actions". But no parents around, remember? They are on vacation.

Now when they get home, they see this interaction on video. This is where it gets interesting, folks. Because Dad and Mom are not naive little kids. They also tend to fear the worse. They begin fidgeting on the couch. The producer then sends the thing to commercial to let them sweat it out. While we the audience are on break, Mom and Dad have a frantic exchange. "He wouldn't be dumb enough to fall for that, would he"? That from Dad, of course. Mom chides him but is even more nervous. "You did tell him he can't trust people like that, right"?

Back from break, the cameras roll. They quickly recap the "kid's" convo with Raul. The setup. And then it happens. Dad hides his face in his hands. Mom turns her head, refusing to watch their beloved humiliate himself as she is forced to hear him do so none the less. What is happening? Obama's response is being played. ''The fact that you had Raúl Castro say he's willing to have his government discuss with ours not just issues of lifting the embargo, but issues of human rights, political prisoners, that's a sign of progress,''.

Now I know you liberals aren't completely able to follow me here, so I'll break this down another notch. You see, the parents know that the Castro's aren't going to discuss anything in the way the immature kid took it.  They don't have to stick around to see Fidel's response. So at this point, the producer enters the camera scope and talks to the parents. He says something along the lines of "Now I hate to tell you, but this gets worse. Here is what your daughter Hillary had to say about the exchange". The parents groan and brace for the worse. The kids slump in their chairs behind them. The footage rolls. Daughter Hillary on tape this time saying "You can see there is beginning to be a debate, I mean this is a regime that is ending."

At this point, Dad loses it. "The regime is ending!?!? Did I raise you to be so stupid as to honestly believe these guys would walk away from power?" At this point they go back to break to let Dad get his bearing. They come back to watch the following video.

The kids then of course attempt to defend their position but it turns into mindless banter and stuttering.  "Uhh... Uhhh... We thought...". Dad explodes. "Yea, you thought! That's the problem".

The show would be great entertainment in my opinion. But will a network decide to run with it? Who knows. Either way, at least you got a little insight into me watching the news.

    Watered Down Travel Ban

I have some friends and family who supported President Trump from early on in the process. From time to time they will ask me when I will admit that I was wrong about him. "If Trump does x... If Trump gets y... If Trump supports a policy that results in z... will you admit that you were wrong?" My answer is always "no", because I wasn't wrong. To be clear, I could be wrong in practical application, but that isn't what an election is about. Elections are about theory and speculation and, generally speaking about judging records. Trump had no record to speak of, and his history of stances on issues was all over the map. I opposed his candidacy for several major reasons, all of which are proven valid in this single issue we now refer to as the "travel ban". Here were my reasons.

    Fraudulent Rant by Judge Jeanine

If you're not familiar with Justice with Judge Jeanine, it is a show on the FOX News Network starring Jeanine Pirro. She is known for her over-the-top rants where she serves up gobs of fresh red meat for her largely hard right wing audience. While it's not unusual for her to be a little fast and loose with the facts, she has been known to occasionally return from the break with a correction from her producers. Last night, however, there was no such correction to an outright lie she told on the show, and the matter being discussed should have (at the very least) contained a disclaimer from the host. I would cut her some slack, but as a former prosecutor and judge, she should be well aware of what proper protocol should have been here.

    Wake The Hell Up, GOP!

It's not cute anymore, Republicans. The President of the United States is completely detached from reality, and you can't fix that. You can't cover it up, you can't explain it away, and let me make this as clear as I possibly can for you. You cannot possibly undo the damage you are doing to the party brand by trying to pretend this man is anything other than completely unhinged. I'm watching Sean Hannity borrow guests from the Alex Jones show in an attempt to bolster Trump's conspiratorial claims. I'm seeing relatively mainstream conservatives make themselves look like the crazed fringes of the paranoid right wing. Don't believe me? Look at this.
