Another Clue From Massachusetts

I was talking to my good friend The Midnight Marauder the other night when we got off on a rabbit trail as we frequently do. We started talking about J.F.K. and the conspiracy theories surrounding his assassination. He was telling me about the feud between Kennedy and L.B.J., and how Texas tended to hold a grudge against the President despite the fact that he had named Johnson as his V.P. to settle the feud between the two of them.

This got me to thinking about the open and obvious feud between President Obama and Secretary Of State Clinton during the Democrat Primary in 2008. Remember the 3 am campaign ad used by Hillary, followed by the 3 am text message to announce Biden as Obama's running mate? I remembered that Hillary Clinton had won the Massachusetts Primary, so I decided to do a little searching to check the results of that primary and compare them to the results of the Senate race earlier this week in the same state. I found this interesting piece over at Daily Kos. Here is a look at the Massachusetts map by county from both races.

Scott Brown's Win By County

Hillary's Primary Win

Now it should be noted that since both candidates won the State, there must be an overlapping of support areas. However, in this case we have a 56% overlap. Scott Brown and Hillary Clinton shared 56% of the counties in Massachusetts in their win. Hence, the question must be asked, if Obama had named Hillary as his running mate, would he have been able to send her to campaign for Coakley and been able to swing the State away from Brown? It certainly is an interesting thought.

There are, however, more questions that should be asked. If President Obama had named Hillary, how would this have affected the outcome of Obama Care. As we all know, Hillary tried unsuccessfully during her Husbands Presidency to bring about socialized medicine. During that experience, she gained a wealth of knowledge that would have been useful to President Obama during his crack at it. There are a lot of "how to" and "how not to" issues that Hillary could have given some invaluable input on.

As the Democrats continue to point the finger around their circular firing squad, I wonder how many of them have stumbled on to these same findings. Was it the immaturity of President Obama that caused him to place his personal grudge over his political well-being? Was this what Hillary was taking about when she said that the office of the Presidency doesn't lend itself to on-the-job training? What say you? Feel free to add more or correct me in the comments.

After our phone conversation I began to realize that Obama probably wouldn't have ANY of the problems he's seeing now, had Hillary been his VP choice. In fact I can't think of even one problem he has, that he would still have.

Hillary would have smoothed over HC reform and cap and trade, had she been VP and had Obama handed her the ball. Therefore there wouldn't have been tea parties, fractious town halls, and there wouldn't be nearly as much "populist anger" out there.

And probably, Brown wouldn't have even run for the Senate.
