If you think political talk radio is a brutal place, you should try sports talk radio. In the world of news talk, you have a biased hosed with a political agenda attempting to spin current events to make you see them his way. In the world of sports talk, you largely have a field of minds so jammed with statistics and dates that they are unable to form a point of view on anything other than a simple Vegas line, let alone manage to try to find a way to spin the event for the mindless masses who tune it. This can make listening to channels like Mad Dog Radio on Sirius and XM Radio an exercise in frustration. Yet it is an exercise that I perform almost daily, and occasionally I call in to try to straighten some of these guys out. My latest beef? The New York Knicks.

One of the major drawbacks of being a blogger who has opinions that don't always fit the mainstream of either political party is that, after awhile, the party faithful tend to tune you out. Truth be told, I tend to get more responses from the left than from the right when I post my articles to facebook. On the issue of abortion, I am a guy who was once in the pro life political camp until my views evolved (politically, not personally) to pro choice. Yet I have long believed, ever since I knew there even was such an issue, that we should all be able to find some common ground on a child that has been born alive. That was, of course, before I knew about a State Senator from Illinois named Barack Obama and a doctor from Pennsylvania named Kermit Gosnell.

Don't get all political on me here, as I am taking a break from it with this post. I don't care what you think about global warming, and I know that a single weather event has little to do with overall climate, but did Colorado not get the freaking memo? It's April, people. Yes, I got caught up in the winter storm. Oh, we are naming those too now? Okay, I found Waldo, and he's a son of a... well, you get the picture. I went up 25 to Pueblo, fueled at the Loves, then shot across 50 to head out to Grand Junction. As you can see from the images in the gallery below, perhaps not the best idea I have ever had.

As an over-the-road trucker, I spend a lot of time driving and listening to Sirius XM Satellite Radio. Sometimes this is a good thing. I listen to a heck of a lot of news and talk radio, so one could say I get informed and misinformed all in the same place. Every now and then, however, I hear a commercial that drives me completely insane. Back when I was still doing the show, I went on an annoyance campaign against Rosetta Stone over a dangling participle in their "learn to speak a foreign language" ads, and eventually the ad was changed. Do I get the credit? In my own mind, perhaps. Well, enter the latest ad to annoy me. Perhaps you have heard or seen this ad for a weight loss product called Banital.

Well, it is that time of year again. For some, it is an unbelievably long and drawn out process, but for true fans of the game it can't last long enough. The 2013 MLB Season kicked off on Sunday in Houston and most teams had their Regular Season Opener yesterday. How does your team stack up in their division? Obviously, if I were an expert I would be doing this in Vegas. Ironically, I am doing this from Vegas. But I am just passing through and not looking for gainful employment. For what it's worth, here is some perspective from a baseball fan who has waited far too long for opening day. I will break down both divisions and tell you where I think each team will finish. At the end of the year, we can come back and see how good or bad I am.

Dad takes son to work... Good job lil buddy you just told a plane to take off!

Written by Content Czar on .

Okay, I understand that if you are taking a flight ANYWHERE you may not want a young child to tell your pilot when it's okay to take off. However, I heard the released audio clip of the child. He sounded like he was doing a very good job (in the voice of a very young and adorable child) and he didn't make sounds of "umms" "or Opps". That's always a good thing. So obviously, it was under adult supervision and even as the little boy was calling out the information, you can hear the pilots chuckling and saying, "Good job". So perhaps, it's because it's the FAA! However, kudos to a dad who let his son sit in his seat for a few minutes and call out a few directives.

That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Unless a plane had crashed and hundreds of lives had been lost...

I don't see the harm. If the dad was an intoxicated, drug abusing Flight controller who had no sense about North, South, East and West. I'd say the FAA had bigger problems to deal with anyway.  I refuse to jump on the bandwagon and judge this dad. I get the distinct feeling people think this is the worst thing they have ever heard.

I'm sorry, but it's not. If the dad worked on a Porn set, I'd have to agree that it was probably not in the best interest of the child to take him to work. However, he'd probably be in less trouble if he had. That's just sad. So to the FAA... stop throwing your employees under the bus for the sake of political and public opinion. It was harmless and people are making more out of it than is necessary.

Child's play at air traffic tower sparks inquiry

Source: Reuters

NEW YORK – An investigation is underway into why a young child, apparently under an adult's supervision, was allowed to direct air traffic at New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport, U.S. authorities said on Wednesday.

In transmissions broadcast by local media, the young child -- whose age is unknown -- can be heard directing pilots for departure, apparently under the supervision of an adult. The incident reportedly happened two weeks ago.

At one point an adult voice can be heard telling a pilot: "This is what you get guys when the kids are out of school."

The pilots receiving instructions from the child did not appear too concerned with one pilot saying "awesome job."

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said that pending the outcome of its investigation the employees involved in the incident were not controlling air traffic.

"This behavior is not acceptable and does not demonstrate the kind of professionalism expected from all FAA employees," the FAA said in a statement.

"Extra Small" Condoms for 12 year-old boys

Written by Content Czar on .

WHAT?! I had to read the title a couple of times.... I'm sharing it with you to read. My first thought was... Extra small condoms says WHAT? Yea, that's a Hannah Montana phrase. I wonder why that popped in my head? Oh, I bet it has something to do with the age of the average viewer for Disney's Hannah Montana show. The sad thing that popped in my head was the realization that grown men will be at stores buying these for a make believe "son" because they don't want to admit that the "extra small" fits better than the average. On the other hand, how many 12 year old boys are going to have enough sense to use a condom if the theory of risky behavior is correct??

A leading condom manufacturer in Switzerland has created extra-small condoms for boys as young as 12 years old, the U.K.’s Daily Telegraph reported.

The condom, called the Hotshot, was produced after family planning groups and the Swiss AIDS Federation campaigned to have the condoms made following several studies that showed adolescent boys were not using proper protection when engaging in intercourse.

"The result that shocked us concerned young boys who display apparently risky behavior,”

Nancy Bodmer, who headed the research, told the newspaper.

“They have more of a tendency not to protect themselves. They do not have a very developed sexual knowledge. They do not understand the consequences of what they are doing and leave the young girls to take care of the consequences.”

Bodmer said the results of the study suggest that early prevention makes sense.

A spokeswoman for the company, Lamprecht AG, said the United Kingdom would be a “top priority” if they expanded abroad, especially since the U.K. has one of the highest rates of teen pregnancy in Europe.

A standard condom has a diameter of 2 inches; the Hotshot's is 1.7 inches.

Baby drugged by grandmother

Associated Press
01/31/2010

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A Missouri woman is accused of
drugging her 1-year-old granddaughter, hoping that the child's
divorcing parents would get back together if they had a sick child.
Jefferson City police allege in a probable cause statement that
41-year-old Terri Chilton fed her granddaughter blood thinner on
Jan. 12, causing the girl to bleed uncontrollably from her mouth,
nose and two minor scratches
. The girl survived, but it's not yet
known if there was long-term organ damage.
Chilton is charged with one count of first-degree child
endangerment. Online court records do not list an attorney for the
Jefferson City woman, and she did not immediately return a call to
her home seeking comment Saturday. She was released on bond Friday.

'Honor Killing'? Iraqi woman dies after dad allegedly ran her down

Written by The Content Czar on .

Source: The Associated Press

Phoenix -- A young Iraqi woman whose father allegedly hit her with his car because she had become too Westernized died Monday after lying in a coma for 13 days. Noor Faleh Almaleki, 20, had been in a a hospital since October 20th, when police say her father ran down her and her boyfriend's mother with his Jeep. The other woman is expected to survive. Faleh Hassan Almaleki, 48, fled after the attack but was arrested Thursday. "By his own admission, this was an intentional act and the reason was that his daughter had brought shame on him and his family," Prosecutor Stephanie Low said. "This was an attempt at an HONOR KILLING."

Personal Note from Mona:

(I wonder when we will be able to drop the word "alleged"?  Particularly, when we are talking about a person who has said they are the responsible party and they goes as far as giving a reason for their actions. I also wonder why it isn't used in the sentence, ..."she had 'allegedly' become too Westernized". In a culture that believes so strongly about certain practices. It puzzles me. How is it that killing your child is less dishonorable than the child's behavior?)

1 1/2 miles Down The Road And The Victim Is Still In The Windshield

Written by The Content Czar on .

Original Source: Associated Press

Providence, R.I. --- A motorist driving past a fender-bender struck three men standing on the side of the highway and drove more than a mile and a half with one of them lodged in his windshield, police said. State police said the three men were standing on the side of Interstate 95 early Sunday to check for damages following an earlier, unrelated accident. Christopher Swiridowsky, 30, drove into the three men and one of them, Jose Flores, 24, became lodged in Swiridowsky's windshield and remained there for a over mile. Swiridowsky stopped only because he thought someone was following him. He fled on foot and was later found hiding in his home. Flores has two broken legs and a broken arm. One of the other men suffered serious injuries, police said.
